CHAPTER TWO
There comes a point each year when the rhythm of the home begins to change. The days grow a little shorter, the mornings a little cooler, and familiar rituals quietly return. Windows close a little earlier. Candles are lit before supper. Coats find their place by the door once more.
It happens gradually, almost without us noticing. A jumper reached for instead of a T-shirt. The heating clicking on for the first time since spring. Evening walks that end at dusk rather than daylight. Nothing changes all at once - but everything, slowly, changes.
Welcome to The Slow Return - the second chapter in our seasonal story.
Where The Long Days celebrated life lived with the doors thrown open, this chapter marks the gentle return indoors. It's the season of gathering, of slower evenings, comforting scents and rooms that invite you to linger a little longer. The garden, so central to summer, steps back; the house steps forward to take its place.
ACT I - THE THRESHOLD
The season rarely changes all at once.
It begins with small things: the coolness of the hallway after an evening walk, leaves gathering by the front door, a familiar coat pulled from the cupboard for the first time in months. The evenings draw in before you're quite ready for them to, and somewhere between putting the key in the lock and stepping inside, summer quietly gives way to something else..
The threshold is often the first place to notice the shift - the space between the world outside and the warmth waiting within. It's where the day outside is left behind: boots kicked off, umbrellas propped to dry, a coat hung in the same spot it's hung in for years.
It's a place most pass through without a second thought, and yet it sets the tone before anything else does. Guests form their first impression of a home here, long before they reach the kitchen or the sitting room - and carry their last one away from the same small space.
