The Art of Summer Fragrance
Our fragrance creator, Hélène talks us through the subtle ways to scent your home in summer.
"As the heat builds, we tend to look for lighter fragrances, preferring something fresher in the summer months.
Herbs and citrus notes such as mint and bergamot or orange, help lift deeper floral scents such as jasmine, rose and neroli.
These fragrances are perfectly suited for our homes in summer as they hint at the gradual incursion of a rambling garden, flowers spilling over into the house. This can give the impression of an outside space even if none is available or help to ease the flow from outdoor to indoor if there is. A well-placed candle or diffuser can draw you through the house to a back door or garden room or add to the serenity of a windowed reading spot.
A clean, herbal fragrance, such as Vetiver & Lavender, can be the perfect start to the bright, early mornings before the heat of the day really builds. A mental stretch to shrug off sleep. These can be particularly effective as hand wash in a kitchen or bathroom as they are often the rooms we enter first upon waking.
Our deeper floral scents, such as Neroli & Bergamot or Cornflower & Meadow Rose provide a slow, soft way to round off a summers day, bringing a sun-baked perfume to the evening. Candles in these fragrances are especially lovely at this time of day as they add a flickering glow to the waning twilight."
